The Zombie Sepsis Game

Category

In a school long ago and far away, I was a science-loving chess club member who also enjoyed team sports and had a competitive spirit. Later, during my undergraduate studies, I wrestled with the complexities of the Krebs cycle in large lecture halls. As a graduate medical student, I experienced problem-based learning sessions where small groups gathered around tables, snacking on carrot sticks dipped in hummus as we worked together to teach one another.

This team-based, social learning approach made a strong impression on me. It sparked a question: Why does education have to be dull and difficult? Why can’t it be interactive, immersive, competitive, cooperative, and even fun? Why can’t learning feel like a game that sparks curiosity and engagement?
