About Course

Welcome to our free Medical Micro introduction on bacteriology! This course was created in 2018, so some information has likely changed since its inception. We do hope you will enjoy it and feel free to reach out with any updates or to report any errors!

What Will You Learn?

  • Students will learn the basic patient presentations, diagnosis, and treatment of the bacterial human pathogens.
  • This course is focused on a medical school curriculum and covers frequently tested materials.

Here are some useful resources to get you started!

1 Gram + Cocci: Streptococcus & Staphylococcus
You will almost certainly see these bugs in the clinic! What do these gram-positive microbes have in common, and how can they be distinguished?

2 Gram – Cocci: Clostridium, Baccilus, Listeria, Corynebacterium, Nocardia, Actinomyces
These spherical bacterium can cause all kinds of havoc on the human body! What are the most common presentations you might run into?

3 Gram – Cocci: Neisseria
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) aren't the only concern with this crafty pathogen.

4: Gram – Baccilus 1- Campylobacter, Helicobacter, Vibrio, Legionella, Haemophilus, Bordetella, Pseudomonas

5: Gram – Bacillus 2- Escherichia, Salmonella, Shigella, Klebsiella, Yersinia, Proteus, others

6: Gram – Bacillus 3: Gardnerella, Bartonella, Eikenella, Coxiella, Brucella, Francisella, Pasteurella
