Description
Aftershock: A Humanitarian Crisis Game explores the importance of teamwork among agencies to handle complex humanitarian disasters. Designed for four players, it can also be played solo or with more players divided into four teams. Recommended for ages 14 and up.
Set in the fictional country of Carana, inspired by real disasters like the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and 2010 Haiti earthquake, Carana faces years of turmoil. The country is trying to rebuild amid poverty, weak governance, and political tensions. Many NGOs and UN agencies, including a UN civilian police force, are active in the region.
The game begins with a powerful earthquake hitting Carana’s capital, Galasi, causing severe damage and leaving thousands in urgent need of aid and medical help. Military forces from friendly countries, forming the multinational Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Task Force (HADR-TF), arrive at Carana’s request, along with UN and NGO staff and essential supplies.
Time is critical—how many lives can you save?
Aftershock offers an exciting, fast-paced, and immersive experience that is both entertaining and educational. It is also used in professional training for aid workers, military personnel, and others involved in disaster relief and humanitarian work.
